Family Rankings & Guide
Canada’s Top 10 Casino Hotels Ranked for Families and Non-Gamblers
We visit Canadian casino hotels with our two children and a partner who never steps onto the gaming floor. We look at what exists beyond the carpet: indoor pools, water slides, twin ice rinks, theatres, and family dining. Across Canada, provincial laws strictly prohibit minors from entering gaming areas. Here is how the ten major resort properties rank when judged entirely on non-gaming amenities.

When we travel across Canada as a family, we ask one straightforward question of every casino hotel: what exists for guests who do not gamble? Most casino websites focus entirely on floor square footage and slot machines. Our editorial desk measures properties by their non-gaming facilities. We check for indoor swimming pools, water slides, ice rinks, live show theatres, family dining options, and straightforward rules regarding children.
Every score on the family ranking follows a weighted criteria system detailed on our how we rank page. Water amenities carry 25% of the score, non-gaming activities carry 20%, family room policies carry 15%, live entertainment carries 15%, dining versatility carries 15%, and transparency carries 10%. If a resort fails to publish basic details about its room counts, swimming pools, or check-in rules on official channels, its transparency score drops accordingly.
Provincial Entry Rules for Minors
In Canada, provincial gaming laws prohibit children from stepping onto a casino floor. Minors cannot stand beside a slot machine, walk through a table area, or wait in gaming corridors. Security officers actively check identification at every floor boundary. However, non-gaming spaces—including hotel towers, theatres, restaurants, and swimming pools—operate under separate provincial access rules depending on the venue.
The legal age to enter a gaming floor varies by province:
- Alberta (18+): Minors may stay in hotel rooms and dine in non-gaming restaurants. At River Cree Resort & Casino, under-18s must be accompanied by an adult in public resort spaces.
- Québec (18+): Minors may stay at the hotel. At Hilton Lac-Leamy, the casino floor, bars, and performance hall require guests to be 18 or older.
- Ontario (19+): Properties such as Fallsview Casino Resort, Caesars Windsor, and Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto welcome minors in their hotel towers and non-gaming dining venues, provided they do not cross into gaming areas.
- British Columbia (19+): At River Rock Casino Resort and Cascades Casino Resort Langley, non-gambling guests under 19 may access designated restaurants and hotel amenities where published. B.C. security staff scan government photo ID for all casino floor visitors.

What We Look For: Pools, Rinks, Shows, and Food
A successful family stay depends on real amenities. River Cree leads our list because it houses two full-sized indoor ice rinks on site and runs a complimentary shuttle to West Edmonton Mall. River Rock features a swimming pool equipped with a water slide and a six-room Absolute Spa. Hilton Lac-Leamy stands out with heated indoor and outdoor swimming pools open year-round.
Entertainment venues also play a central role. Fallsview Casino Resort features over 320 live shows a year across the 5,000-seat OLG Stage and the 1,559-seat Avalon Theatre. Caesars Windsor hosts top-tier performers inside its 5,000-seat Colosseum. When evaluating dining, we check whether properties offer open-to-all-ages options. While some casino resorts feature fine dining like Gordon Ramsay Steak at River Rock, they also provide accessible noodle bars, buffets, and casual grills.
Where properties fall short, we state it plainly. Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Ottawa opened in July 2025 with a 1,900-seat live venue but built no swimming pool and no spa. Cascades Casino Resort Langley has no pool and no concert theatre. You can compare every amenity across all ten properties on the non-gaming comparison table.
