Provincial Guide for Families

Canadian Casino Hotels by Province: Entry Ages and Roster

When we travel across Canada with our family, provincial borders mean different legal ages, regulators, and entry rules for casino floors. Understanding these regulations helps us plan trips smoothly, ensuring everyone enjoys the hotel amenities while respecting local laws.

Ontario: Minimum Age 19

Ontario includes casino hotels on this list. The minimum legal age to access a gaming floor in Ontario is 19. Under the oversight of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), individuals under 19 are strictly prohibited from entering casino floors, except when employed at the property under applicable labour regulations.

For families staying in Ontario, the hotel towers, pools, event centres, and dining outlets remain separate from the gaming area. Minors are welcome in designated resort spaces, provided they do not step onto the floor. If you are reviewing show tickets or swimming access, check venue policies in advance to verify whether adult supervision is required. Responsible gambling support in Ontario is provided 24/7 by ConnexOntario at 1-866-531-2600.

The five Ontario properties on our roster include:

British Columbia: Minimum Age 19

In British Columbia, the minimum legal age to enter a gaming floor is 19. The province updated its oversight framework in April 2026, establishing the Independent Gambling Control Office (IGCO) as the primary regulator alongside the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC). BC venues enforce universal identification checks at floor entrances, requiring every visitor to present valid government photo identification before entering.

For non-gambling guests and children, the property facilities outside the casino perimeter offer amenities such as swimming pools, live show theatres, and dining rooms. Review what minors can and cannot do before travelling to understand how security checkpoints operate near main concourses. Confidential support is available through Gambling Support BC at 1-888-795-6111.

The two British Columbia properties featured in our guide are:

Alberta: Minimum Age 18

Alberta sets its minimum age for casino access at 18. Regulated by Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis (AGLC), minors under 18 years of age are not permitted within casino areas under any circumstances. Staff conduct challenge-based identification checks for anyone appearing under 25 years old at floor entry points.

Because the legal age is 18 rather than 19, families travelling with older teenagers should note that 18-year-olds may enter gaming floors independently in Alberta, whereas they remain minors under gaming law in Ontario and British Columbia. Hotel rooms, rinks, and public restaurants remain open to guests of all ages. For assistance, the GameSense Info Line operates at 1-833-447-7523, while the Alberta Health Services Addiction Helpline offers 24/7 support at 1-866-332-2322.

Our Alberta properties include:

Québec: Minimum Age 18

Québec establishes its legal gaming age at 18. Gaming facilities in the province are operated by the Société des casinos du Québec, a subsidiary of Loto-Québec. Anyone appearing under 25 may be asked to present government-issued photo identification at entry points to verify their age.

Our guide evaluates one property in Québec due to its proximity to the National Capital Region: Hilton Lac-Leamy in Gatineau. The complex connects a Hilton hotel tower with the Casino du Lac-Leamy. While the gaming floor and performance hall require guests to be 18 or older, the hotel's indoor and outdoor pools, fitness facilities, and outdoor grounds are available to hotel guests of all ages. Assistance in Québec is provided by Gambling: Help and Referral at 1-800-461-0140.

Provincial Comparison and Family Planning

When comparing resort options across Canada, provincial age differences are only one part of the picture. We evaluate each resort based on how we rank non-gaming amenities, weighting pool facilities, family dining, live theatre, and transparency above gaming statistics. To compare specific amenities side by side, consult the non-gaming comparison table.
