Overview and Website Transparency Signals

Casino Rama Resort opened on 31 July 1996 on Chippewas of Rama First Nation land, approximately two hours north of Toronto via Highway 400 near Orillia, Ontario. The property is owned jointly by the Chippewas of Rama First Nation and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), with operations managed by Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Limited.

When evaluating properties for the family ranking, web transparency forms an essential component of our evaluation under our published how we rank standards. During our editorial assessment, the official website for Casino Rama Resort was unreachable due to server certificate and bot-protection blocks. As a result, specific operational details in this guide—including room counts, spa names, and indoor facility layouts—are derived from Gateway press announcements, provincial news coverage, and secondary directory listings rather than live resort pages. Secondary sources report that the resort features an estimated 289 hotel rooms and a 192,000-square-foot gaming floor, though these numbers are not currently verified directly on an accessible resort homepage.

Live Shows at the Entertainment Centre

The primary non-gaming draw at Casino Rama Resort is the Casino Rama Entertainment Centre. Secondary media reports and trade press confirm that the auditorium seats over 5,000 guests.

The venue hosts touring concerts, comedians, and musical acts throughout the year. Confirmed concert bookings include performers such as Jesse Cook, The Righteous Brothers, Colin James, The Celtic Tenors, and Air Supply. Guests planning to attend a performance with younger family members should review ticket terms directly with the box office, as show-specific age requirements vary depending on the performer. Detailed age policies across provincial venues can be reviewed in our guide to shows for all ages.

Pool, Spa, and Resort Refurbishment

Gateway Casinos & Entertainment announced a major capital refurbishment programme for Casino Rama Resort in partnership with OLG and the Chippewas of Rama First Nation. This multi-phase project includes hotel room upgrades, common area refreshes, upgraded slot machinery, and expanded wellness facilities.

Regarding wellness and leisure amenities, news reports from May 2025 note that a new spa facility was added on the ground floor, featuring saunas and steam rooms. The resort's swimming pool is located on the third floor according to regional news coverage, though specific dimensions, operating hours, and user policies remain unverified due to the official site's downtime. Older directory listings refer to the venue as the Balance in Life Spa, but the active operational name for the ground-floor spa facility is not published on accessible official pages. For broader comparisons of wellness options, see our overview of spa days for the non-gambler.

Dining Across the Property

Casino Rama Resort features ten dining venues, spanning casual grab-and-go options to sit-down dining. As part of the property updates, Gateway introduced Chow Lucky Noodle Bar as an Asian-inspired venue serving wok-fired dishes, soups, and noodle bowls. Another recent addition is MATCH Eatery & Public House, situated near the main rotunda area to offer sports bar classics and casual family meals.

Fine dining is represented by Atlas Steak and Fish at St. Germain's, which converted the former St. Germain's location into Gateway's signature steakhouse concept. Additional dining outlets across the property include Couchiching Court Buffet, The Weirs, Cedar, and a Tim Hortons counter. The refurbishment plan explicitly prioritized expanding family-friendly meal choices across the resort concourse.

Ontario Entry Rules and Minor Policies

Under Ontario provincial regulations enforced by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO), nobody under 19 years of age is permitted to enter the casino floor. Security checks photo identification at all floor entrances, requiring two pieces of ID from anyone appearing 21 or younger. For full regulatory context across provinces, read our breakdown of what minors can and cannot do.

Minors are permitted in designated non-gaming areas of the property, including the hotel, certain concourse corridors, and non-gaming dining outlets. However, minors cannot cross or stand near the gaming perimeter under any circumstances. Parents traveling with children should plan leisure time around the pool, hotel room, dining halls, or regional outings in Simcoe County.

Nearby Family Excursions in Orillia

For families spending daytime hours away from the resort, the surrounding Orillia area offers several outdoor and cultural options. Couchiching Beach Park sits along Lake Couchiching, offering sandy beach areas, flower gardens, an aqua theatre, and outdoor picnic facilities. History enthusiasts can visit the Leacock Museum National Historic Site, located on the former estate of Canadian humorist Stephen Leacock.

Active families visiting during warmer or colder seasons can travel to Hardwood Ski and Bike, located a short drive from Rama. The facility provides cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails in winter, as well as mountain bike trails during summer months. Checking current seasonal availability directly with local operators before leaving the resort is recommended.

Our verdict

A solid concert venue with updated dining, though official site availability limits detailed advance planning.
